Find answers to the questions we get asked most often about our policies and legal services.
If you earn below the tax threshold and you don't have any deductions to claim, SARS may not require you to file a tax return. But many salary earners qualify for refunds they'd miss out on if they don't file.
Auto-assessment aren't always accurate, especially if you have income or deductions like medical costs, retirement contributions or travel claims, that SARS doesn't automatically pick up. We'll help you correct the assessment by submitting an updated tax return along with any supporting documents SARS needs to verify the changes.
Penalties are usually charged when SARS believes a return was filed late, tax wasn't paid on time or income was left out. Sometimes these penalties are justified, but not always. We'll look into the reason for the penalty, and if there are valid grounds, we can request that SARS removes it so you don't pay unnecessarily.
Once SARS has processed the tax return and refund is due, it is typically paid within a few working days. If SARS selects your return for verification, it may take a bit longer. We keep track of your return and follow up if anything delays your refund.
If your personal details with SARS aren't up to date it can delay refunds or important communication reaching you. We'll help you update your information and submit documents SARS needs for verification.
