Frequently asked questions
about our workplace & labour protection benefit

Find answers to the questions we get asked most often about our policies and legal services.

Work life can bring amazing opportunities, but also a few challenges along the way. Maybe you want your contract checked when starting a new role, to know your rights when facing disciplinary steps, or how to address unfair treatment by your boss. You can also count on us if you've been let go unfairly, aren't being paid what you earned, or dealing with unsafe working conditions. Whatever's happening at work, we'll help you take the rights steps to make sure all your hard work pays off.

Losing your job can be incredibly stressful and confusing, especially if it feels unfair. We'll look at the circumstances of your dismissal to see if there are grounds to challenge the decision. If it seems your dismissal was unfair, we'll help you refer your case to the CCMA or relevant Bargaining Council and guide you through every step of the process. If you and your employer can't agree on a solution at this stage, we can refer the matter to arbitration and appoint one of our trusted labour lawyers to represent you.

Absolutely. It's stressful when payday comes and the numbers don't add up. We'll go through your employment contract, payslips, and conversations with your employer to try to figure out why it's happening. If it's simply unpaid wages, we'll help you refer the matter to the Department of Labour to start a claim. If there are unfair deductions, withheld pay after dismissal or unpaid benefits, we'll help you refer the case to the CCMA or Bargaining Council instead.
And where possible, we’ll contact your employer directly to try to find a solution before it turns into a bigger problem.

The first CCMA meeting is called conciliation - it's an informal session where both sides try to reach an agreement with the help of a commissioner. Unfortunately, lawyers aren't allowed to appear at this stage, but you won't be left to handle it on your own. We'll help you prepare your case, gather the right documents, and put together written representations. If the dispute isn't resolved and moves to arbitration, we can then appoint a labour lawyer to represent you.

Being overlooked for a promotion is understandably frustrating, especially when you've worked hard and taken steps to grow in your career. While promotions aren't guaranteed by the law, they should still be done fairly, and transparently. If you believe you were treated unfairly due to bias, favouritisim, or discrimination, we'll help you raise your concerns through the right internal channels.
